Are You Prepared?
If you plan on continuing to work and currently have coverage through your employer, there are the questions you need to ask yourself.
If you plan on working past 65 and want to stay on your employer’s plan, the first thing you need to do is find out what they require. If they are going to cover you the same as before turning 65 then you do not need to do anything, carry on until about six months outside of retirement. Once you know you are coming up to retirement you will need to contact Social Security and enroll into Medicare. At that time, you need to start exploring your options and finding the best plan for you.
If your employer requires you enroll into Medicare and they will either supplement Medicare or Medicare will supplement your work coverage, find out if you have to enroll into Parts A & B or just A. This is important because when you stop working, if you are outside of your window, you may have to answer health questions in order to qualify for various plans.
You also need to know what kind of prescription coverage your employer is going to provide once you turn 65, as it is the largest day to day cost you will probably incur from a Health coverage standpoint.
If you have any questions about Medicare, please give me a call and let me give you the information you will need to make the best choice for you. There is no cost and no obligation and you will not be dealing with a pushy salesman, just someone that will shoot straight and give you the facts. I can be reached at 803-851-0219. All the best,
