HAPPY SUNDAY

August 19, 2018

Good morning all,

I hope all is good in your world. As I sit here Sunday morning listening to the sound of my sons cutting grass and my dogs going crazy, because they want to go out there and attack the lawnmower, I am thinking just how great life is for me.

About ten years ago, actually ten years and one week my wife was in an accident that turned our life upside down. She was unable to work and needed care on a constant basis. I had to quit work to take care of her and try to be the mom and dad. Being the dad was easy; being the mom was something else entirely. You women deserve a medal for all that you do. I do not know how many times I had to hear “Mom doesn’t do it that way.” It was a long recovery, both personally and professionally.

When she started to get better and did not require the constant care, I figured it was time to get back on track, jobwise, and knew that would be no issue given the fact that I can easily adapt to any situation and become a success. What is the old saying, how do you make God laugh? Tell him your plans.

Getting back in the workforce was not easy, I had to start at the very bottom and work my way up. At the very bottom, I had to get a job at a temp service as a commercial carpenter’s assistant. I say temp service-it was a daily work, daily pay agency. I had to prove myself every day, and show I was not one of the people looking for beer money or worse.  I worked there for 8 months and when that job ended I was able to get a job with another company full-time. While working there I ran into someone I knew from a past life and he told me about the insurance business. I worked in insurance prior to it but decided to get out pursuing other opportunities. I went ahead and got my license re-instated, worked for a couple of agencies until I found the right fit. After a couple of years, I am happy to say I did find one- my own.

I decided to start my own firm to focus on what is important-taking care of the client. Some of the places I worked were only concerned with the sale. I understand that we work to provide for our family, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do that. The Medicare business model is such, that you can only make more money by helping more people. The rates are set with the state, the commissions are paid by the insurance companies, and the client will never pay more if they go directly to the insurance company or if they go with an independent agent. So how do you set yourself apart? By building relationships and treating the client the way they deserve to be treated. Making sure you are there for them every step of the way answering questions, addressing concerns, and making sure they have the right plan for them at the right price. That is what it is about, I do not sell a policy, I sell an agent. If you choose the right agent, the right plan will follow. Conversely, if I sell the agent to a client then the policy will come with them.

I am happy to say that everything has slowly come back into place. It has not been easy, but with hard work, no pride, and perseverance we are doing well. My message is simple-no matter the hardship, you can overcome it. It will not be easy and it will not always go the way you hoped it would, but if you stay the course and keep showing up, then good things are going to happen. My wife, the strongest person I know, has come a long way in recovery. She still has some good days and bad days, but she is still the wonderful, beautiful, loving woman I married over twenty years ago.

We are a family owned and operated agency. My wife and son help out with the marketing and I handle the customer service and relationship-building. I am here to help you in any way that I can. If you have any questions please give me a call or shoot me an email. I am here to help.

Do something nice for someone today, just because.

All the best,

Randy
