What Medicare Covers Concerning This New Disease

**We have updates as of 3/20/2020 concerning Medicare. Click HERE
It seems like everywhere you turn COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, has taken over. The media, business world, and even the local stores seem to be saturated with talk of what you should do, how you should do it, and scold you on the fact that you should have done it yesterday.
Yes, an entire country has shut down, (Italy), but think of three things:
Panic causes stress.
Stress breaks down your immune system.
A weakened immune system invites a world of health problems.
If you're over 60, or have underlying health conditions, the CDC is currently recommending that you stock up & stay home. Keeping a level head while remaining cautious and diligent with preventative measures is the best we can do until a vaccine is produced.
Until then, here’s what you can expect from Medicare if you do have to get tested, or if this sickness befalls you.
The test has to be medically necessary to be covered-be it the COVID-19 or imaging test like CT or Xray. (If a doctor’s concerned, they’ll deem it so)
Most Insurance companies are waiving copays and prior authorization for the COVID-19 testing. Contact your agent to verify. Otherwise, coinsurance & deductible apply.
If quarantined in the hospital, you will not be charged the “private room” rate or have to pay the extra deductible for staying when you would have been otherwise discharged.
Telehealth & other technological communications are covered by Medicare.
We wish you all the best of health during this unusual time!

As always, do something nice today for someone just because.
All the best,
