Telehealth is just one of the communication-based technology services that allow you to communicate with your doctor, or certain other practitioners, without necessarily going to the doctor’s office in person for a full visit. This is achieved via computer or mobile device.
*Some offices require prior authorization from you to communicate with you in this manner; therefore, you would need to contact your physician to verify their policy.*
Since 2018, the services provided through Telehealth are covered by Medicare and the coinsurance & deductible applies.
Telehealth opened the door for other services, such as patient portal-an application that allows you to message your doctors, set appointments, review your visits, labs and radiology reports, and even pay your bills. When you receive services from your doctor via their patient portal, they are also covered by Medicare.
These services have been quite beneficial for those unable to travel, rural areas without access to certain specialist, people with weakened immune systems-the list goes on, and in a positive manner.
