Simplifying Your Choices with Medicare

Retirees Discussing Medicare Options

One of the most important things we do for our clients is break down Medicare in the simplest terms. It's a lot of information and your best option is something that depends on your needs and desires. So, we lay it all out in a direct, yet realistic manner.

When it comes down to the best choice for you, the two main things to remember are this:

YOUR HEALTH and YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION

There is no one size fits all approach when it comes to Medicare. Some people want a plan that will allow them to go see any doctor in the country with no limitations Traditional Medicare and a Supplement. Others want a zero premium plan with additional benefits, Medicare Advantage. It depends on your health needs and what is going to work for you with your situation.

Additional Note: If you are on Medicaid, then you will have to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan for people that are dual eligible or D-SNP.

There's a caveat to both, though:

It's an inevitable fact that premiums will go up for the Supplements.

AND

You may be healthy now, but what happens if that changes?

You can switch from Medicare Advantage to Traditional Medical during specified enrollment periods, but in order to enroll in a Supplemental plan you would have to pass underwriting. Supplemental insurance companies are not obligated to let you enroll outside of your 6-month Open Enrollment Period, unlike your initial enrollment period, IEP, they can and will ask health questions and check your medical history. If they decide your history is not to their liking, they can deny you coverage.

*There are certain situations where they have to take you, please call if you have been turned down in the past.
