FIRST FULL WEEK OF SUMMER IS HERE!

It’s summertime again, which means most of us will be enjoying outdoor activities. Whether you’re enjoying the beach, or just a lazy afternoon by the pool, it’s important to remember your skin!

According to Cancer.org, more skin cancers are diagnosed in the US each year than all other cancers combined. That’s pretty unnerving, but there are things we can do to protect ourselves.

Here are a few tips to keep your time in the sun, fun:

  • APPLY SUNSCREEN: SPF 30 or higher 15 minutes before going out & reapply every 2hrs. Look for products containing: Mexoryl, Parsol 1789, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or avobenzone.

  • TAKE A BREAK IN THE SHADE: If your favorite spot doesn’t have any shade, use a canopy-they’re available in several sizes, including those attached to portable chairs.

  • LIMIT EXPOSURE FROM 10am – 4pm: The UV rays are their most potent during this time.

  • BE MINDFUL OF MEDS: Some common otc medications such as Aleve and Benadryl cause increased sensitivity to the sun, and there are some prescription meds that can cause more extreme reactions. Be sure to check with your pharmacist before heading out.

  • GET CHECK-UPS: Keep your yearly appointments with your physician, and check your body regularly for any unusual moles, or growths.

While prevention simply lowers your chances of getting skin cancer, it’s definitely something to consider.
